Brew Coup: Charlotte, NC (NoDa)

Welcome to another edition of Brew Coup: your guide to America’s best breweries to visit when traveling!

After my adventure in Charlotte’s South End, I headed north to the NoDa neighborhood at the recommendation of a friendly Uber driver. “These are the places I may be drinking at later,” she told me. Named after North Davidson street, NoDa beers were a good find!

Heist Brewing

Come to Heist for the beer, but stay for the food! Heist has some seriously great grub. I was lucky enough to be sitting next to some friendly business travelers at the bar, and they felt compelled to share their company-card-purchased food with me. Who am I to turn down the kindness of strangers? The beer cheese was amazing, as was the ancho chili edamame. Flights are “pick fives” but at the time they only had five in-house beers on draft, so I got to try everything they had.

Brews to Choose:

  • Hive Fives: a Belgian style blonde was my favorite.
  • Be sure to also try whatever version of Not From Concentrate they’ve got on draft. I had their v16, which was a NE style IPA.

NoDa Brewing

I’m not sure got a great take on NoDa Brewing. I arrived mere minutes before last call and rushed to pick four beers for my flight before the clock ran out. Definitely need to come back the next time I am in town and spend more time here.

Brews to Choose:

  • I went as low effort as possible here in trying to find beers I’d like: the Good Will Hopping and the Hop, Drop’n Roll were both good IPAs with hop puns. I’m easy to please.
